"If you're feeling out of kilter, not sure why or what about, let your feet reveal the answer, find the sore spot, work it out"
My first experience of reflexology was at the start of 2021 when I found myself in hospital due to a sudden and unexpected illness that resulted in life saving surgery and a lengthy stay in intensive care.
I experienced physical and emotional trauma throughout this time which, coupled with covid related visiting restrictions, meant that this was a painful, lonely and frightening time for me.
Although I was desperately unwell and unable to move, I recall a reflexologist coming in to give me treatments during my stay. I can honestly say that those were the only times I felt vaguely relieved or soothed throughout this hugely challenging time – I felt like during the treatments I’d had a total break from what I was experiencing. I know that I fell asleep when she was working on me, and I barely slept at any other times during my entire time in hospital.

Since then I underwent multiple corrective surgeries and a very long period of rehabilitation. My new reality found me going from a dynamic, energetic and capable woman with a great zest for life, to a shadow of my former self, coping with the many challenges of life with a stoma, experiencing extreme debilitating pain and inflammation, severe post-traumatic stress disorder and a profound inability to sleep or even relax, day or night. I would have done absolutely anything to make myself feel better and went in search of reflexology treatments.
I was fortunate enough to come across a kind and skilled reflexologist with a big heart (really good reflexologists tend to be like that) whose treatments were transformative for me.
I attribute much of my recovery to the ongoing treatment I have received, and the kindness and care shown to me by this wonderful human being. Having suffered septic shock, which brought me very close to losing my life, all systems of my body were affected. Gradually, over time, with the dedication and skill of my new medical team, regular reflexology treatments (not to mention a lot of kindness and encouragement), I noticed myself getting a little stronger. Even though I went through many more surgeries and hospital admissions, I genuinely believe that reflexology treatments helped me to get through the worst times and ultimately begin to regain my life.
I’d add that my life “pre-illness” was fast paced and demanding - I owned a business that I worked tirelessly at for many years and had a lot of people to look after (I never stopped and put myself last on my list of priorities) - a lifestyle many of us subscribe to nowadays and I certainly wouldn't recommend.
Fast forward to now, several years since this happened to me, I have undergone world class reflexology training with the London School of Reflexology, am qualified to work in the NHS and I now work in private practice in London and Surrey. Until this unprecedented life curveball happened to me, I had a vague belief that reflexology was simply a soothing, therapeutic massage applied to the feet; little did I did I know that it could have a dramatic and positive effect on a person’s health and wellbeing – which I experienced first-hand and will be eternally grateful for.
By practicing as a trained reflexologist I am now able to put my own past experiences to good use. I welcome the opportunity of helping others, whether that be when coping with illness, life challenges, or providing a therapeutic experience that is really rather lovely to those who are looking for a treatment that helps them to replenish and restore balance.
It’s important to say, that even though my own journey to reflexology was an unexpected and bumpy one, I do wish I’d discovered it sooner as illness is not a pre-requisite for benefitting from this wonderful treatment. Regular reflexology treatments can be a deeply nurturing, therapeutic and enjoyable means of valuable self-care, helping us (and our bodies) to function optimally through the ever-demanding lives we have become accustomed to living.
Having been through my own personal journey of life threatening illness and having benefitted on so many levels from reflexology treatments, my intention is to provide a calming and uplifting space, where clients can come and feel entirely nurtured in peaceful surroundings that have been designed specifically to soothe and uplift, resting the senses and soothing the soul whilst promoting feelings of balance and inner harmony.
